Christoph Lechner holds the Chair of Strategic Management at the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland) and is Director of its Institute of Management. He holds two Master degrees, one in Economics from Wayne State University (USA) and one in Business Administration from the University of Augsburg (Germany). Christoph Lechner received his Ph.D. in 1999 and his Habilitation in 2004, both in Strategic Management from the University of St. Gallen. He was Guest Professor at the Business School of the University of Connecticut (USA), Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (USA), and IAE Business School of the Universidad Austral (Argentina). During his career, Prof. Lechner received offers as Professor of Strategic Management from Bocconi University (Italy), EM Lyon(France), European School of Management and Technology (Germany), University Mannheim (Germany), and University of St. Gallen (Switzerland) 

Professional Career

At the university, Prof. Lechner teaches selected topics of strategy in Master, PhD, and EMBA programs. Beside his academic engagement, he serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of Helvetia(insurance). From 2001-2008 he was Vice-Chairman of Hügli (food). Prof. Lechner has consulted on strategy and educated executives for several companies around the world such as Allianz, Altana, Booz & Company, Clariant, Credit Suisse, Daimler, Fresenius, Munich Re, Oracle, PWC, SAP, Siemens, Swiss Re, Swiss Life, VP Bank, Uralita, etc. He also is founding partner of the Swiss Virtual Business School AG, a leading provider of e-based learning programmes. Prior to his academic career, Prof. Lechner has worked about seven years for Deutsche Bank Group, including an apprenticeship program, assistant to a managing director, corporate banking in Germany and corporate finance in Singapore.

Awards During his academic career, Prof. Lechner received a scholarship of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), the Dr. Peter-Werhahn-Award for Outstanding Research in Business Administration and the Theory of Science, the Cap Gemini Ernst & Young-Award for the Best German Business Book (together with Günter Müller-Stewens), the Best Conference PaperAward of the Strategic Management Society (together with Steven Floyd), the Distinguished Paper Award of the Business Policy & Strategy Division of the Academy of Management, the Sumantra Ghoshal Research and Practice Award (together with Karolin Marx & Steven Floyd) and the Best Lecturer Award of the MBA Program of the University of St. Gallen.
